Life

Father's Day is always interesting for me. So many feelings of joy as we celebrate my hubs and my step-dad. But, still a void where my dad used to fit. It also challenges me to embrace forgiveness while trying to remember the good times, even when the good time are a little hard to remember.

 I turned 40 over the weekend, but on Friday Jill surprised me with a few phone calls. Mike Weaver from Big Daddy Weave (Redeemed, Love Come to Life) and Matthew West (Do Something, Hello My Name Is) both called to wish me a happy birthday! If you didn't get a chance to hear all of the birthday teasing, here's what you missed:

I was sitting in front of my TV with the PlayStation 3 I'd received as an early birthday present. As I eagerly typed in my birth date so I could set up a game, my daughter gasped, "Wow, you're old!"

I'm sure you know life's a gift. My problem is I don't usually live my life like it's a gift. I usually survive work and errands and collapse on the couch in a limp "Jeremy mess" at the end of the day. It's possible you can't relate, but I have a feeling you can.

Earlier this week, my 2nd grader and I were working on her spelling words for school. As I test her, we have this little thing we do where I put the word into a sentence and sometimes try to make it funny. Sometimes she laughs, sometimes she pity-laughs, sometimes she giggles uncontrollably, and sometimes she ignores me. {It's a mixed bag.} But, her reaction on this day was something new.
