Cool Kid of the Week
Take a bow, 10-year-old Riley Moran of Peoria, you're our newest Cool Kid of the Week!
A fourth grader at Ridgeview Elementary, Riley has taken his interest in ballroom dancing to new heights by using it to help others! His "new step" is organizing the Rockin' the House Family Dance at Northminister Presbyterian Church in Peoria on Saturday, May 12, to benefit Neighborhood House.
The dance will take place from 6:30pm to 9:30pm with performances by local musicians and dancers. Riley has recruited volunteers to help complete the many tasks involved including performing, making desserts, and helping with decorations. All proceeds for the event will go directly to help Riley's favorite local charity feed and educate the needy in central Illinois.
In addition to his work on the dance, Riley organized his classmates to decorate 250 lids for meals to be delivered by Neighborhood House's Meals on Wheels program during the week of Thanksgiving. He also held a toy drive at Northminster and in his neighborhood to donate to Neighborhood House's Christmas Toy Shop and then worked in the shop handing out the donated items.
According to his mom, Barbra, Riley has "a real heart for service, and takes seriously our call to use our gifts and talents to further God's kingdom."
When he's not dancing or volunteering in the community, Riley takes pottery classes, plays bass in the school orchestra, practices the piano and enjoys being a Cub Scout.
Riley, our dance shoes and hats are off to you! Thanks for doing cool things for Jesus and enjoy your Cool Kid of the Week Prize Pack: a WCIC t-Shirt, a special keychain, and passes for two for a free movie, pop, and popcorn at Landmark Cinemas in Peoria.
